Custodian

The Custodian at MRCI is responsible for performing scheduled duties relative to facility cleaning, light repair, maintenance, and yard work in order to provide a clean and orderly and safe environment.

1. Responsible to clean building on a scheduled basis and in accordance with MRCI cleaning procedure. Performing but not limited to such duties as sweeping, moping, buffing, stripping, vacuuming floors, dusting, polishing, scrubbing walls and fixtures etc.
2. Gather and empty trash in accordance with established procedures.
3. Cleans and disinfects restrooms; and stocks with paper and supplies.
4. Mix water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
5. Identifies stains and uses proper chemicals for removal.
6. Responsible to perform repair and preventative maintenance work as assigned.
7. Remove snow from sidewalks using snow blowers, and snow shovels, and spread snow melting chemicals.
8. Set-up and arrange tables and chairs to prepare facility for events such as meetings.
9. Mow and trim lawns and shrubbery, using mowers, and hand and power trimmers, and clear debris from grounds. 
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

• A High school graduate or equivalence; and two years of experience in general custodian experience including the operation of cleaning equipment, light repair, preventative maintenance and yard work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must be highly motivated and able to work independently and have the ability to work with hand and power tools.
• Experience with safety programs, including ability to identify hazards and make corrections as needed.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Valid driver's license, clean driving record and reliable transportation to use for work driving purposes.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: lifting and moving objects up to 75 pounds, sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Environment

May be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.
