Job Summary
The HR Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: workers' compensation, performance management, and employment law compliance. In addition, the Human Resources Generalist actively contributes to our mission by embracing a culture that focuses on MRCI's Team Promises and supports one another, our clients and strengthens our community participation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Administer worker's compensation program including analyzing trends, identifying root causes, monitoring costs and managing risk. Explain process and provide information to employee.

Work with various external persons such as insurance claim representatives, attorneys, physicians and other parties to coordinate the processing of claims. Compiles information regarding incidents and related medical expenses, and prepares ongoing reports as required by state law and established procedures. Assists employee and supervisors in return to work placement to minimize claim costs. Complete OSHA log and post annually.

Participates in strategic planning aimed at reducing the incidence of worker's compensation-related injuries.

Monitor the performance evaluation process. Tracks submission of evaluations and reminds supervisors of deadline dates to ensure evaluations are completed timely.

Manages the drug and alcohol program, including the testing process. Conducts quarterly random drug tests and follows up with employees, as appropriate. Makes referrals to EAP for those who are unable to pass the test.

Serve as experienced member of HR Team who responds to staff with employment questions. Recommend and implement changes in methods or procedures relating to increasing efficiency of HR function.

Assist with a variety of HR projects (e.g. Employee Surveys, HR communication).

Participate in research and development of HR policies and ensure compliance with all State and Federal legislation.

Foster a safe and healthy work environment by following all safety practices and procedures.

Secure confidential information to protect staff, clients and proprietary knowledge.

Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Three to five years' experience working in a human resources department. Experience in safety and workers' compensation preferred. Experience working with people with developmental and mental disabilities, their families, and their caretakers is helpful.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of state and local laws surrounding the field of human resources and compliance with applicable laws.

Proficient knowledge of the fundamental principles and practices of Workers' Compensation.

Demonstrated ability to make good independent judgment and decisions.

Good team work and collaboration effort.

Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.

Strong problem solving, multi-tasking and organizational skills.

Excellent customer service, interpersonal, verbal/written communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products required; proficiency in HR systems such as ADP strongly preferred.

Clear a MN Department of Human Services background check.
Physical Requirements
Physically able to work in an office environment and operate office equipment. Will need to manage time well and perform multiple assignments at once while maintaining a professional demeanor with clients and customers.
Environment
Required to sit for extended periods of time and view both printed pages and computer screens for several hours each shift.
