Job Summary
The Payroll Specialist will provide general payroll supports for the Fiscal Employer Agent (FEA)/Payroll Model program. Responsibilities will vary as they relate to accounting functions assigned and on special projects required. In addition, the Payroll Specialist actively contributes to our mission by embracing a culture that focuses on MRCI's Team Promises and supports one another, our clients and strengthens our community participation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for the set-up and closure of all necessary federal and state accounts and filing all required forms related to individual employers.
2. Responsible for opening unemployment accounts for individual employers.
3. Responsible for new hire reporting for individual employers.
4. Responsible for entering new employee tax information and verifying direct deposit and W4 withholding information in Annkissam.
5. Responsible for employer upload to Annkissam.
6. Serve as a backup for all FEA payroll functions.
7. Assist with all audits relating to the FEA payroll.
8. Secure confidential information to protect staff, clients and proprietary knowledge.
9. Responsible for other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience
An Associate's degree in accounting or related field or two-year certificate in accounting and one year of payroll processing experience, or a high school diploma with three to five years of payroll processing experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Wide-ranging proficiency in current mainframe software used for payroll processing and computer based office software with emphasis on excel and the ability to acquire working knowledge of MRCI's custom case management software.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and ability to apply this knowledge to work situations.
- Knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations controlling payroll record keepings.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to communicate ideas effectively, problem solve, demonstrate organizational skills, and multi-task.
- Clear a MN Department of Human Services background check and physical exam to demonstrate the ability to perform the physical demands of the job.
Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

The environment will vary dependent on the individual's assigned department.
