Payroll Supervisor

The Payroll Supervisor is a full-time position in Mankato, MN with day time hours. This position will allow you to give back to the community while having flexibility, full-time benefits, training, and advancement opportunities!

 

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.

 

Job Summary:

The Payroll Supervisor directs, coordinates, analyzes, plans and participates in activities necessary to process the MRCI payroll, including the management and evaluation of employees and represents both state and federal governmental agencies regarding retirement, taxes and other related issues. Overall, the department objectives are to assure accurate and timely payments to employees with appropriate accounting for taxes, retirement, benefits, pay deductions and allocation to funds and accounts.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Oversee all aspects of payroll processing to include data collection and accounts using standard accounting techniques.
  • Understand and perform the duties of other payroll department members in their absence.
  • Review and approve payroll runs.
  • Maintain a filing system for assigned reports.
  • Assure accuracy of MRCI Staff, Client, and CDS provider payroll.
  • File tax returns timely and deposit all Federal and State payroll taxes and MN State sales tax within required guidelines.
  • Submit employee's retirement fund payroll deductions and employer match to MRCI's 403b Plan vendor.
  • Process and manage garnishments.
  • Use quality control to help staff learn and to measure payroll accuracy and service to employees.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • An Associate's degree in Accounting with a payroll certificate or equivalent experience, plus five years of experience in payroll or financial record keeping.
  • Ability to direct and evaluate the work of others.
  • Establish and maintain accurate and comprehensive records.
  • Interpret written and verbal instructions.
  • Use good judgment to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Analyze situations and adopt a course of action
  • Solve many complex problems independently without supervision and resolve critical employee issues and complex situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Operate a personal computer and have extensive experience with Microsoft Office products, in particular Excel and must also be able to proficiently operate a 10 key calculator
  • Must have extensive knowledge of federal and state employment related laws and regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail, good decision making, customer service and communication ability.
