Thrift Shop Assistant Retail Manager

Essential Function: 

 

The Thrift Shop Assistant Retail Manager is responsible for the day to day front end store operations and aims to maximize profit minimize cost and generate revenues to support the stores administration. The Assistant Manager manages the daily store operations in the absence of the Thrift Shop Manager. The Assistant Manager ensures promotions are accurate, merchandised to company standards and makes sure the team meets excellent customer care standards.

 

Responsibilities/Duties:

  1. Oversee the display of merchandise inside the store to enhance its appearance.
  2. Assist the manager in developing marketing strategies to match the season of merchandise.
  3. Prepare money bags for cash registers and assigns cashiers to registers. 
  4. Count money in cash drawers according to store policy and procedures.
  5. Ensure daily deposits are reconciled, keep records and have accurate bank deposits.
  6. Monitor checkout area to ensure adequate cash is available and that are staffed appropriately.
  7. Stay current with resale, thrift, consignment and retail trends.
  8. Provide excellent customer service according to standards and ensure staff and volunteers follow the same standards.
  9. Develop and maintain customer relationships in relation to store sales.
  10. Protect employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment.
  11. Supervise the store in the manager's absence, adhering to all policies and procedures.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications/Specifications:

  • At least one to three years' experience in a retail environment required.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in the areas of management, merchandise inventory, marketing or customer service preferred.
  • Excellent customer service, good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and strong leadership ability.
  • Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle.

 

Education:  Two year degree in Sales, Marketing, Business Management or a related field.

 

Physical Demands:  Must be able to stand/walk for an entire shift, lift/carry heavy objects, grasp, reach and manipulate objects with hands, push and pull objects and bend and twist body.

 

Working conditions:  Irregular work hours, which include weekends and holidays with minor travel involved. Exposure to: fumes, dust, odors, debris and cold and hot temperatures from outside. Must cope with interruptions, work at a fast pace and be able to adapt to a moderate noise level.
