Transportation Manager

Job Summary: The Transportation Manager is responsible for safe and effective fleet management and transportation safety.  In addition, the Transportation Manager effectively manages the coordination of client transportation in the Mankato regional area and oversees the branch locations for client transportation coordination.   This individual is responsible for ensuring that all transportation is conducted in compliance with all laws and regulations. As an employee of MRCI, this individual is expected and required to maintain the highest ethical standards.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Plan, coordinate and schedule all Mankato client transportation services in an efficient and safe manner and in compliance with all laws and regulations. Develop immediate and long-range facility, equipment, operating and service plans and objectives for client transportation services at all sites.
  2. Establish, review and maintain the record keeping system at all sites for items such as attendance, trip mileage, time cards, etc. to ensure compliance with regulations and funding requirements.  Complete and maintain records for the Mankato transportation program.
  3. Develop, prepare and review the annual budget for the Mankato transportation department; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations.
  4. Maintain and route vehicle files for all MRCI sites to include registration, insurance and maintenance information, and mileage.
  5. Assure compliance with Department of Transportation regulations and collaborate with state, county, city and community partners on transportation initiatives. 
  6. Establish Mankato vehicle maintenance schedules and ensure all MRCI vehicles are maintained in accordance with established schedules.  Coordinate repairs, upgrades and general maintenance as required, including cleaning.  File claims with insurance company when necessary for Mankato and branch locations.
  7. Assist in making the decision to close routes or cancel routes due to weather conditions.
  8. Act as company liaison with leasing agent to manage rental fleet.  In conjunction with the CFO, negotiate and oversee contract with leasing agent.
  9. Establish standards for a corporate-wide driver training program to ensure driver training and safety measures are uniform.
  10. Conduct quarterly transportation reviews with Metro Transportation Coordinator for branch fleet analysis, vehicle file review, maintenance review and planning, safety training needs and licensing renewals.
  11. Coordinate accident investigations involving company-owned or leased vehicles and equipment.  Serve as a member of the Safety Committee.
  12. Conduct intake of new referrals while insuring transportation approval before finalization.
  13. Refine, review and update transportation service areas as needed.
  14. Perform other job related duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:  The Transportation Manager at MRCI requires related work experience and strong supervisory skills. In addition, the individual in this position must have knowledge of state and federal transportation laws, be familiar with vehicles operated, and have solid communication and customer service skills. The Transportation Manager must also possess proficiency in computer based office software, and hold a valid Class C Minnesota Driver's License with CDL passenger endorsement.

 

Education/Experience:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or an associate's degree plus three years related work experience.  In lieu of a degree, five to eight years of related work experience will be accepted.
